Access Table - Maximun Number of Fields?

Z

Zoe

What is the maximum number of fileds allowed in an Access 2002 table? In an
Access 2007 table?

As always, any aassistance is greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Zoe

255 fields (which you really shouldn't come close to if you have a properly
designed and normalized relational database).

That is, 16+ text fields at 255 characters each would be too long
if you try to actually put 255 characters in each field.

But only half as many if text compression is turned off, because
'uncompressed' text fields take 2 bytes per character.

Numeric fields always use up a fixed amount of space. Memo fields
flow into other pages.

Memo fields flow into other pages.

It's my understand that memo fields are put onto their own pages. All
that is in the record is a link to the page(s) containing the memo
field taking, presumably, 4 bytes.

Could be, I thought that in Jet 4, like in SQL Server, short
memo fields could be contained in the base page.
