access server event log

Guest

I am using the MS XP Pro IIS server and have had some success in publishing a
web created in Front Page to the "localhost server", however, when I try to
use the published submit form, I get the following error:
FrontPage Error.
User: please report details to this site's webmaster. Webmaster: please see
the server's application event log for more details.

So, my question is, how do I access this event log?

In IIS in your root web look at Properties Web Site under Enable Log Files (properties)

PS
If you form is trying to send mail it can't on your localhost PC unless you are running a SMTP server

IIS comes with an SMTP server. All you have to do is turn it on.

Ok, bottom line is that I cant send mail from the form using IIS with the
SMTP so is there a way to work around this?

What do you mean that you can't send email, are you being blocked by your ISP?

If so, the only workaround is use a web hosting service for your site.

Thomas, if I knew what was causing the email not to send, there would be no
need for me to come here and ask. I have a feedback form on one of the pages
on my localhost IIS server. If I add an email recipient to the form, and
then try to submit the form, I get an error message that says the following:

Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on this page:

If I remove the email recipient from the form, it sends the information to
the data base _private folder the way it should. I would like the form to
send an email but it wont do it. Since it gave me the error message that it
cannot run the server extensions on that page, I figured it had something to
do with Front Page.

Have you configured the FP extensions to use SMTP server, by entering it's IP address. You may need
to also run a Server Health Check on the extensions.

Try creating a default feedback form with an email address, and see it that works directly on the
server via http://localhost in FP after doing the above.

You should post this to the Windows Server newsgroup for setting up the SMTP server, etc.
