Access Security workgroup wizard report file

Help!

The report that contains the information to recreate my
workgroup file says <previously created> for my Workgroup
ID and the other ID's..Why?

That suggests that when you ran the wizard this time, you chose to use an
existing workgroup file (modify it), rather than create a new one.

Do you have the wizard report from the first time that you created that
workgroup?

Hi Joan;
Thanks Joan, I do have another report that has the same
workgroup file name, yet it has a different path. So, I am
not sure if it is the same file. Is there some way I can
tell if the one with <previously created> is refering to
the other wizard report I have with the ID numbers?
Thanks Libby

Hi Libby,

The mdw could have been moved, so the path is different.

I can't think of a way, but why do you doubt it is different?

Have you been running the wizard a lot, and creating lots of workgroup
files?

Basically it is the first time I secured an Access database
and I got very confused. I think I made the mistake of
using the security wizard when I opened Access (with no
database open.) Then when I tried to open my other database
(which I thought was unsecured) it said I didn't have
permission(when I tried to open it within Access). I
didn't really know what was going on and thus I did
different things to try to get into my database. Thus, I
am concerned as to whether or not I have the right info if
I ever have to recreate the security file.
What you think of that?

If I were you, I'd unsecure your database, then get rid of any mdw files
that were created, and start over. That way you'll have information you
know is correct.

What version of Access?

Open the database and log in as a user that's a member of the Admins group.

Give all permissions for every object to the Users Group.
Rejoin the standard system.mdw workgroup (Tools, Security, Workgroup
Administrator). The system.mdw file is usually found in the windows system
folder.
Open Access, and create a new mdb (you should _not_ get the login prompt).
Import all objects from your mdb - This new mdb will be unsecured.
