What recommendations would you have for a person just starting out learning
to write a Access db.

I'm sure there are a myriad of opinions on this...
1. Get a book related to the version of Access you have. For beginners,
most any beginner book will do. Many computer books indicate on the back
cover what level they are geared to. (Beginner, Intermediate...) Don't get
hung up on the "specifics" at first... use it to get a grip on the basics of
database design... more so than database building.
2. Start building a simple project for yourself. Maybe a
PersonalAddress, CDCollection, or Home Inventory project.
3. Work at it...
4. Work at it...
5. Work at it...

(Watch out for any possible line wrapping on that link)
;-)

Ok, seriously though, there are lots of good links there on
database design, naming conventions, reserved words, etc.
Also, lots of good book recommendations and tutorials as well.
If you are just starting out I really recommend getting a
good book or two.
