BlankHi,
Is there any way to access my network through the internet? Files mostly. Something along the lines of dial-up-server in ME. I have a laptop with ME and a Desktop with XP connected with a wireless router with a DSL internet connection.
Thanks,
Bob

BlankXP Pro and ADSL/perminent conenction comes already set to go although
you need to enable remote access in computer properties. You would then need
to install the client software on the ME PC. This would mean it would be
like sitting at the computer not mapping drives and you share the clipboard
so you can copy and paste between computers. I use this on a LAN - it is
faster to use Remote access than work with a database across the LAN since
all the processing is done on the faster computer and only the
screen/keyboard/mouse info goes across the LAN.

If using XP Home you will need PC Anywhere or something similar. Haven't
looked for any native RAS funtion in XP (like in 2000).

You say like dial-up server. This function anwsers an incomming call which
is different to across the internet although PC Anywhere works with either.

I would also be interested in a solution to be able to map drives from a
remote location although remote control is more flexible for me - yet to
find out how to copy files while not on the LAN.
(Used HTTP and FTP services when I did this over the Internet)
