Access is denied problem

I have 3 computers in a workgroup, all running XP SP2 home edition, with a
wireless network, using NTFS file system.
The 2 oldest computers had some problems and I had to reinstall XP. I can
no longer acess the shared docs files between them, although I can access
shared printers. I recently bought a laptop, and am having the same problem
that when I try to access the \shareddocs file I get the message 'access is
denied'. The shared folders on the other computers are visible in 'my
network places', but I get the error message as soon as I try to open one of
the folders.
MS KB article 810881 describes my problem, but the resolution describes
clicking on the Security tab of the folder propoerties, which does not exist
on my XP OS (I am on SP2). What am I missing?
Advice needed please!
