Access disbaled

Hi,

I'm running XP on my laptop and have never had any
problems, however I recently got hit by the viruses that
were going round, after installing the patches it appears
that I keep getting disbaled errors such as:

Your System adminstrator disabled the display control
panel.
Registry Editing has been disabled by your administrator.

Yet I am the administrator (the user account that I use
has administrator privelages) and I never use the
administrator access. Do you have any suggestions as to
how I restore my access and how I get to use everything
again?
