Access denied

In Windows Vista Home Premium there appeared new restrictions on some (not
all) folders, like Application Data, Desktop, Documents etc. They all seem to
have in the lower left corner a little square with a blue arrow pointing
toward 2 o’clock. When I try to open these folders, I get: â€Access denied.â€

When I check the security of the folders (right clicking the folder and
clicking security), I notice that the accessible folders have Gerhard
(Desktop\Gerhard) listed, whereas the non- accessible ones have Every-one.
But when I try to add in the non-accessible folder Gerhard (Desktop\Gerhard),
it says:â€The following object, Gerhard (Desktop\Gerhard), is not from a
domain listed in the Select Location dialog box and therefore not valid.

I’m the only user and have administrative privileges. These restrictions did
not exist before.

How can I eliminate these restrictions?
Thanks in advance,
Gerhard

Hi,

The following "folders" are not really folders, but are actually junction
points that merely act as redirects for compatibility with older software
routines that expect those folders to exist. They redirect them to the
actual folder locations in Vista:

Application Data
Cookies
Local Settings
My Documents
Nethood
Printhood
Recent
Sendto
Start menu
Templates

There is nothing in any of them for you to access, they merely exist.

Try Right-Clicking the folder in question in the right hand pane and
selecting "Take Ownership"

Those are not folders... they are junction points. Leave them alone.
Most of the old standard XP folder names are now junction points. Vista
uses a different folder hierarchy, and these junction points exist to
redirect software that was written before Vista was born.
