Access denied to networked drive

We have a Buffalo Linkstation connected to our network (Ethernet, DSL
router, no Domain or server). I have a mapped drive (z:) to my share on the
Linkstation drive. Until a few days ago all worked fine. Now I can see the
drive and can copy files from it to my hard drive, but I cannot copy files
from my hard drive to the Linkstation. I get an "Access denied" message
telling me to be sure the drive is not full or write-protected. (It is not.)

All other computers are still working fine with the Linkstation. Only mine
is locked out. We have no access restrictions or passwords on the shares on
the Linkstations.

I have Win XP Pro SP2 (the others are XP Home SP2). I have disabled both
Norton Antivirus and Norton Personal Firewall to confirm they are not the
problem. I have opened command windows and tried to copy directly ("copy
c:\test.txt z:\") but get the same Access denied message.

I can copy, change, and delete files to/from the other computers on the
network through My Network Places, but I cannot copy to the Linkstation
(whether through the mapped drive or through My Network Places).

Linkstation technical support cannot help because the Linkstation is working
properly.

Does anyone have an idea what is wrong? Thanks very much,

Gene

This is a follow-up:

At the same time the access problem started I also began to have problems
installing applications whose installers are InstallShield executables
(namely, AutoSave from V-Communications, and BounceBack Professional from
CMS Products). Both installers would go through preliminary screens
gathering information, reading the EULA, etc., and then when they were to
begin the installation they would stop at 0% done. I had to use Task Manager
to end the program. After getting the installer to end I would get an error
message, "An error occurred while launching the setup. The remote procedure
call failed."

The only way I got either application installed was to use msconfig to do a
"Selective Startup" with only "Load System Services" chosen. Then the
programs would install.

This is new. Both programs had been previously installed, so it does not
seem to be the applications. It seems something on my system is blocking
something from working. Perhaps this is related to why I cannot access my
mapped drive, described in my earlier post.

Thanks,
Gene

Try these Windows Installer fixes (one at a time, testing after each
change) from MVP Kelly Theriot:

Go to Start/Run and type in:
msiexec /unregister [click ok]

Then Start/Run and type in:
msiexec /regserver [click ok]

Malke,

Thank you for the suggestions. I have tried the first two without success,
but have not had time to test any further. I was waiting to respond to your
message until I had tried everything, but time is getting away from me.
Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Gene
