Access denied on one user machine

I am the sole user with admin account on a notebook running XP-Pro SP2.
there is a documents folder which I get an "access denied" when I try to open
it. Guest account is turned off. need advice thanks.

You really didn't give us much to work with. What "documents" folder?
Where is it located (full path, please)? If you are the only user, how
did the Mystery Documents Folder get there?

As a guess and first step, take ownership:
