Access Compatibility

I am considering taking on a project for a friend. He wants me to create a
database in Access. But he has Access 2003 and I have Access 2000 and Access
1997 (on different computers). Can I create a database in either Access 2000
or 1997 and will he be able to then open it in 2003? Can we go back and
forth with data between different versions?

He will be able to open any of your work, but he will possibly want to
convert the Access 97 database to do any work. You will be able to view/edit
his work if he maintains the default Access 2000 format. Access 97 will not
be able to view later versions, but they can be converted back.

The one caveat is that later features (like Conditional Formatting) cannot
be converted to earlier versions.
