Access compatibility with Service Pack 3 for XP

Anyone having any issues with Access 2003 and the latest and greatest SP3
for XP? Just thought I'd ask around before installing it...

I'm far from an expert, but from the searching and reading I've done I
can't see any justification for me to install XP SP3 ... there are
threads regarding problems with XP SP3 in other discussion groups.

I'm also curious what the opinions in this group are.

Hello,

We have an Access 2003 application used by several departments. It's
primarily used for reports. The reports are bound to complex queries
which consist of linked Oracle tables. We just started testing this
application with XP SP3 on a couple of PCs and so far the results
aren't good. The queries behind the reports have slowed to a crawl.
Even opening the database application itself has slowed considerably.
We have a Novell network with Novell Client 4.91 SP3 for Windows
installed on our machines. Could the "Network Access Protection"
feature Microsoft has incorporated into SP3 be part of the problem?
Anyone else experiencing similarly slow performance in a similar
environment?

Just a guess, but I think XP SP3 includes some of the networking
enhancements that were released with Vista. I don't think Network Access
Protection would cause problems unless you've enabled the feature, but the
tcp "enhancements" caused lots of network slowdown with older network
drivers or routers/switches that didn't support the new features. Features
include sliding receive windows, chimney offload and a few other
optimizations that apparently work great when everything in the network
supports them, but can fail miserably when support is lacking.

Search for Vista network slowdown issues and maybe some of those fixes would
help. Basically, try installing the latest network drivers for your network
card or motherboard. Drivers should be within the last year or so if
possible. You can find instructions for disabling these new network features
in Vista, and maybe the same instructions work in xp sp3.
