Access closes when saving query

Tod

I have an Access XP database with a number of queries in
it. Some of the queries have a problem I can't fix. If I
open the query in design mode, when I click Save, Access
shuts down and none of my changes are saved. This only
happens on certain queries. I can't find anything that
they have in common. I've tried rebuilding them from
scratch and the problem occurs again. Sometimes I can
rebuild a query and it does not do this for the first few
times, but then the same problem comes back. Now, the
queries will run just fine, no problem. It only occures if
I open the query in design mode and try to save it.

What gives?

Sounds like the database is partically corrupt.

To rebuild it:
1. Make sure you have the latest JET service patch. Locate the file
msjet40.dll on your hard disk (usually in windows\system32), right-click and
click the Version tab. If you have less than 4.0.8015, go to
support.microsoft.com, service packs section, and get Jet 4 SP8. (While you
are there, make sure you have at least SP2 for Office XP as well.)

2. After installing the service packs, create a new (blank) database.
Immediately turn off the Name AutoCorrect boxes under Tools | Options |
General. Then import everything from your old database: File | Get External
| Import.

If it still corrupts, then it will be worth looking at the queries
themselves, e.g. if the corrupting queries contain subqueries.
