I accidentally overwrote a critical file. I saved the new file. What I need
is the previous version created 12-3-05. How can I access the backup file?
Im'm using Word 1997- Office 2000

If you did not

1. use versions in Word (not recommended though),

2. told Word to automatically create a backup copy each time you save
(Tools | Options),

3. don't have an external backup of the file (no backup --> you can
loose all your files when, for instance, your harddisk crashes),

or if

4. opening up the Word-file via File | Open, Type: "Recover text from
any File" (make sure this option is set to *.doc after your tests) does
not reveal at least some of the _content_ (you only get text here, so
don't expect formatting), then you are most probably out of luck.

Make sure that you will never again fail to comply with #3 above.
