Access Attachments

Q

Q

Hi Everyone,

I have a database with approximately 5,000 records. Each record has a
1-2 page Word document in an attachment field. Is there a way to
search the contents of the Word documents for specific terms without
opening each document? If not, is there a way to select all the
documents at once and combine them into a single Adobe PDF file?

Thanks in advance for your help!

There is no way to search through a document without opening it.

You can do this through automation, but looping through 10000 docs, would be
my first choice. If this is the approach you wish to use, I would suggest
you post a similiar question in the Word forum as this is a word automation
issue and you would most probably get a answer faster there.

As for creating a single pdf, yes it can be done. What PDF writer do you
have, this will dictate the method to use.

I would suggest you provide a bit more detail on what it is exactly you are
trying to do so we may better guide you. Are you simply trying to create a
huge search tool?

Daniel,

Thanks for responding!

I agree that looping does not sound like a good idea.

I have Adobe Acrobat 9 standard, and I know how to create an Adobe
document from multiple word files. So, my question is, where are the
files saved in Access? Is there a way to extract all of them from
Access at one time? Or is there a way to select all of them at once
to combine in a PDF?

Thanks again for your help (and sorry it has taken me a while to get
back to this).
