Access Application on the Web

L

Len Robichaud

I have a rather complex Access multi user application developed and working
over our network (front end - back end). The application handles the
management and tracking of residential homeowner warranty claims. Instead
of having a frontend on each computer, we would like to make this an
entirely internet web-based application where anyone with the passcodes
could log in from any internet enabled computer (not having Access installed
on that computer), from any location and be able to run the application.

Is this possible with MS Access or does the application need to be rewriten
in some other language. If it's not clear already, I have NO web experience
although I am a fairly advanced MSAccess developer.

Thanks in advance,

Len

You can certainly utilize that ms-access application *over* the web. That
means work at home people, or traveling sales people can use the application
*over* the web (internet). I explain how here:

however, if you read the above, you see that you still using ms-access. note
that you *can* use ms-access with the above suggested terminal services, and
that *can* be run inside of a browser. So, in theory, any machine you have
could launch a browser, and run your appcation (and, that machine would NOT
need ms-access nor your "front end" part installed

If you actually want to build a web based system, then ms-access is of no
use. ms-access has nothing to do with the web, and is not a web based
system..so, wrong tool, wrong newsgroup.

YOU SHOULD MOVE TO A REAL DATABASE-- LIKE SQL SERVER BECAUSE MICROSOFT
KB ARTICLES HAVE BEEN STATING FOR A DECADE THAT ACCESS IS NOT
APPROPRIATE FOR WEB SERVERS

AND NO IF YOU ARE A CRYBABY DIPSHIT THAT USES FRONTEND / BACKEND YOU
ARE _NOT_ AN ADVANCED ACCESS DEVELOPER

ADVANCED ACCESS DEVELOPERS USE ACCESS DATA PROJECTS

Of course, many people wrongly fail to distinguish between Access
and Jet. Jet *can* be used as a data store, but that has nothing to
do with the application part, which is pure Access.

Access CANNOT be used as a data store if you're obliged to follow
Sarbanes-Oxley :)

Albert;

you should STFU and learn how to speak ADP, kid

you don't need Terminal Server to run over a VPN lol
you just need a decent friggin database lol
