I am trying to open a report in design mode using Access 97. Even after
taking the mdb file off the network and trying to open it up at my
workstation. I cannot enter design mode in any reports to diagnose a problem.

The database is not passworded and was running locally with no other users
having it open.

The design mode button is disables

Are you sure it is not an MDE file? In an MDE forms, reports, and modules
are not editable at all. The actual file extension is not always a good
indicator for this either. One can create an MDE and then change the file
extension back to MDB and you still would not be able to edit those objects.

Hi Rick,

Actually you are right it is an MDE file. Is there any way of getting around
this. This database was created by an ex employee where I work who is no
longer with the company.

Any Ideas would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks in advance

No real way of getting around it. There are 3rd party services that can
convert MDEs back to MDBs, but it's not something mere mortals can do.
