Access 97 Compact Questions

Charlie

I have a large history database (21,000KB) in Access 97.
I ran a compact process (from the tool menu) and it
created a second database with a size of 9,000KB. The
error msg that I received was "1611 - another user was
trying to change the data at the sme time".

Three questions:
I am sure that no other user was trying to access this
file. What caused this error? How can I prevent this
error in the future?

The second db looks very good. It has all the data &
objects can I just rename it to the history?

Access normaly would compact the history, and delete the
second file correct?

Thanks

You may be the other users if access shut down unexpectedly at one point. If
you are using an NT based computer try Ctrl-shift-esc and look under
processes to see if how many msaccess.exe are running. Also, if you are
completely out of the DB, look in the folder where the DB is and delete the
yourdbname.ldb file and try again.
