my database in 2007 and continue my work?
Thanks

Yes, you can use Access 2007 to work on a 2000 database. In fact, my
defaults are set to use the Access 2000 format (currently).

But, it would probably be good to make a copy just as a backup so you can
get back if you do something that causes a problem.

I try to do that, but find that if I edit a query in access 2007, my mdb
file is corrupted and can no longer open the file. The program disappears
from the screen with no error, when trying to open the modified query in
access 2000. Does anyone else see this?

Are you making sure that it is saving as an Access 2000 file? Also, before
you started working with it in Access 2007, did it compile? I would make
sure it compiled and also run compact and repair.

Yes, I've got access set up to use access 2000 when creating databases. The
database was originally created by access 2000.

Is there another setting that needs to be changed somewhere to make sure
that when it gets saved back, it writes in that format?

I'm not actually compiling anything. It's just a raw database file by the
way.

I've done some more tests today.

If I open an access database query within access 2007, and slide a column,
then save the file, that opening that query in access 2000 causes access
2000 to crash.

If I instead create a blank database, and import everything from the now
corrupted access 2000 database, it imports everything, but when you click on
the corrupted query, it disappears again, with no error report. It also
does not enter any error information in the Event log under Application nor
any other subkey.

However, here's the strange bit. If I instead of running the query (which
is just a standard select query, joining two tables), I view the design, it
works fine, though it loses the column widths.

So it appears that there's something wrong with the representation of column
widths in query design that's causing the problem.

Can anyone else duplicate this?

Since I have both 2000 and 2007, I'll try to reproduce the effect and get
back to you.

Did you have any luck reproducing this, Bob?

I've just installed office 2007 SP1, and it still corrupts the query
definition, and causes Access 2000 to crash.
There goes any hope at all of an early resolution!
