Access 2007 Stand Alone

S

Scorp16

Our company does not currently use MS Office suite at all -- but we are
looking at installing Access 2007.

1. Can Access 2007 run as a stand alone software install?
2. Does it need any part of the Office suite?

If yes to Q 1, will there be any loss in functionality or features?

Thanks for your help!

You can buy and install MS Access as a stand-alone application. It should
make sure that it has all the pieces it needs to run.

If you are going to be 'consuming' Access databases, you don't need the full
version of Access, which allows you to create/develop applications using
Access. In that case, you can probably download the Access Runtime from
Microsoft. You won't be able to change Access-thingies, but you would be
able to use an application prepared by someone who does have the full
version.

There is a free Access runtime:

but you will need a full version to design and build the database, as well
as make any design changes.

The value of Microsoft Access over any other DBMS, is Microsoft Office
automation. While you can certainly run Access from any Windows machine,
using the programs together is what makes the Office System worth even more
than the high price it costs, and certainly far more than any of the free or
cheap office suites.

Using Access with the full version of Office allows you to do emailing from
a list of contacts within the database, and do mailmerges with the Microsoft
Word word processor. You can build slide shows in PowerPoint, incorporating
data directly from Access, and you can do charting and financial modeling in
Excel while connected to Access data. As a standalone product, Access is
awesome. As part of the Office suite, Access is unexcelled.

Every version of Access has been able to exist without installing the rest
of the Office Suite.

The installation will install whatever Office components are required in
order to run Access.
