access 2007 slow over network

I have just installed Office 2007 on several PCs in a remote office. They
are having issues with opening access databases on the server in the main
office. Nothing on the network has changed and the databases open up fine
when using Office 2000. Any ideas as to what could be causing this would be
greatly appreciated.

Define problems, have you setup security in 2007 so the database is in a
trusted location?

Access quits responding and it takes up to five minutes for the database to
come up. Then it takes another five minutes to try to access something.
Even when closing, it takes forever... sometimes quits responding.

Yes, I have added the folder to the truste locations. It didn't help. We
do use .mdw files as this database was created in Access 2000.

If I copy the database and .mdw file to a server in the remote office, it
works fine. It also appears to be a problem with larger databases. The
smaller ones seem to work OK.

I have checked the security and the web site you suggested. The only thing
that has changed is Access 2000 vs Access 2007. When I open the database in
Access 2000, it works fine. When I open the database in Access 2007, it is
extremely slow. There must be some change in 2007 that is causing this.

Did you turn off autocorrect? This is a big hit and 2007 default is on.

I do have the same problem here. No problems with Office 97, 2000, XP, 2003.
With Access 2007 everything is acceptable when the database is local, but
painfully slow over network. Nothing change in the settings of the server!
They changed Access 2007 jet engine and probably screw it! Stop taking us for
newbie and saying that our computer is broken! If I switch back to Office
2003 everything is fine. Autocorrect is turn off, I've tried all the things
on granite web site. Everything that will come into your mind, I've tried!!!

Does this involve Windows Vista systems?

The problem is present on Windows XP, Windows 2003 and Windows Vista.

I have written numerous 97-2003 access apps for many clients in many cities
and experience similar issues with speed and 2007 using runtime and full
blown versions on the front ends (XPP only, no Vista). I also have these
issues with some apps running SQL on the back-end (SVR2003).

I can duplicate these problems on any of my networks, even a 2 person peer
to peer network. Like others writing about this issue, the system speed is
great on older versions of access, but 2007 has major issues. I am fully
familiar with the techniques shown on
http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/performanceldblocking.htm.
At this time I am unsuccessful at determining the cause, but 2007 has some
nice features I'd like to implement. There should not be pages devoted to
these issues. They should just work, and they do not. As Access Programming
is a major part of my business, I will continue to monitor this thread.

There's a hotfix just out that might fix your problem.

After you upgrade Access 2003 to Access 2007, operations on existing
forms have slow performance.
