Access 2007 - Security

Why, for God sake, does Microsoft eliminate the user level security in an
Access Database 2007.

How can I recommend this new version to my clients, who uses and needs this
kind of security?

Hi, Joe or Bob.
Why, for God sake, does Microsoft eliminate the user level security in an
Access Database 2007.

User-Level Security is not supported for ACCDB format files, but it's
supported for MDB format files in Access 2007. Keep the database
applications from earlier versions in MDB format, and you can keep the
User-Level Security.

I just ran across this thread while looking into the same issue. My concern
is the question of just how long the mdb file format will be supported. I'm
a newbie so please bare with me. I currently have a split db and realize I
can upsize to SQL Server for the backend and, in thus doing, gain superior
security of the actual data. What about the UI objects, though? What if I
want to prevent user's/groups from even opening certain forms or reports?
One of the great things about pre-2007 Access (the mdb file format) is I can
control everything in one nice, neat package. I can certainly conceptualize
creating my own security model for my UI objects but that's going to be a
major pain!!! Am I missing something here? Is there another option?

Thanks for your help.

Sorry for posting my earlier message before reading some of the other
threads. It appears this issue has been knocked around quite a bit and I
should probably look into some of the previous suggestions before commenting
further.
