Access 2003 not printing

I have 20 XP machines with Office2003 pro and current with all updates. 15
will not let me use the format>font, file>page setup, file>print preview, or
file>print dialog boxes. These machines will not print Access only. All other
Apps work fine.

Jason, this is quite a common problem in Access 2003 with network printers.

In essence, Access is unable to see/use the printer for some reason. Since
it uses the printer driver to calculate the metrics for the report, you are
unable to design reports as a result.

There have been lots of threads in this group and
microsoft.public.access.reports about this topic. You can search for the
previous answers at:

A starting point might be to remove and reinstall the printer.
In Access 2002 and 2003, you can ask Access about the printer by opening the
Immediate Window (Ctrl+G) and entering:
? Printer.DeviceName
? Printers.Count

The printers are there, both devicename and count came back ok. If this is a
network printer problem, then why doesn't the fromat|font dialog box not
appear? The dialog boxes mentioned before do not appear. ???? Could it be a
pop-up blocker??

To verify that it is a network printer issue, change to a local printer
(perhaps "Microsoft Office Document Image Writer"), and see if the font
dialog appears.

I expect you will see that the printer metrics are required for font and
other report design info.

Thank You, problem solved or at leasted a work-around. It's weird, my
machines that were ok have a network printer as default and they work fine.
If this is a known problem why hasn't there been a fix or update sent out?
