Access 2002 import wizard issue

Access 2002 SP3

When attempting to import from either an Excel spreadsheet or a CSV file the
wizard fails to function properly. Everything works fine except the part
where I tell the wizard which columns (fields) to import. The first column
is automatically selected and I can choose to skip it or rename it just as
you would expect. When I try to select any of the other columns they
highlight properly but the the fieldname remains whatever was in column 1.
If I rename it, it renames column 1 not the desired column. All the data
will import fine, but I cannot skip any columns except the first. So the
workaround is to import everything then delete from the table what I don't
need later.

BTW, same data files will import fine and behave correctly on another PC
with Access 2002 without any SPs.

Steps taken to resolve:

Repaired Office XP.
Removed Excel, Access, and Word and reinstalled them.

Still behaves the same way. Makes me believe its a bug from one of the SPs.
I slipstreamed the SPs into my Office install so I'd pretty much have to
completely reinstall Office to remove them. Hoping someone else has seen
this and knows of a file to replace or something simple.

TIA

Try it this way:

file / get external data / LINK tables (instead of
import)

Select the table(s) you want to link.

Go to create query, use the table(s) you just linked,
select the column(s) that you want, rename them using the
a label. Then change your query to a Make Table Query.
Give it a name and run it.

May not be as elegant or efficient as import wizard but it
works.

Hi,

I have exactly the same behaviour.
Our desktops are XP Sp1 and Office 2k Sp3. (Multilingual)

The bug appeared after deploying Sp3. I will do further testing, but
think that the SP3 has a lot of bugs...
I already had to restore a SP1 dll to correct a dictionnary bug i
Office.

If you look at http://support.microsoft.com/?id=837003 , you will fin
something similar for Access 2003. I tried this patch but it doesn'
work with Access 2002.

Still searching...

Hi again !

I think I have the solution.

1° Close Access 2002
2° Goto C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\ and locat
ACCWIZ.DLL. Rename it to *.old
3° Copy this Dll from a working workstation (with no Office SP)an
paste it in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\
4° Restart Access and Try !

It should now work again... (it worked for me)

Hope this post helps.
