Access 2000 ADP going after SQL Server 6.5 on Windows 2000 failure

Trying to access tables on a SQL Server 6.5 database
running on a windows 2000 platform results in the
following error:

ADO Error: To many arguments for procedure sp_MShelpcolumns

Anybody ever seen this . . . searched KB, no luck.
