I have designed a powerpont where i want certain parts to be displayed with
the press of a keyboard. for example on a family feud type game there is the
top 5 answers and I want the host to be able to press 1 for the number one
answer, 2 for the second answer and so on. I can get it to work in excel no
problem using the accelerator function with macro's but I can not get it to
work in powerpoint. can someone shed some light? thanks.

what is an animation trigger? I have never used one before?

I have the game complete but that is the one thing that we would like to use
that is stopping us from launching

In PowerPoint 2002 and above, you can click on an object to trigger an
animation of another object. Rather than typing 1, you would be able to
click on the box marked 1 and have the answer appear (or the box marked 1
disappear). To try it out, create two shapes. For one of the shapes,
create an entrance animation (right-click on it, choose custom animation,
and ...). In the list of shapes with animations (on the right side of
your screen), click on the shape you just animated. Click on the pull
down menu triangle next to the shape name and choose Timing. Click on
Triggers and choose the other shape to trigger the animation. Now when
you go to Slide Show view, you will see one shape. Click on it, and the
other shape should appear.

scratch that I do know what an animation trigger is just never used it in
that capacity before. Does the Macro accelerator not work in PPT?

I'm not familiar with the Macro Accelerator. I'm guessing it is not
available in PPT, but I could be wrong.

I guess I should have explained myself better off the start. We have the
game designed it works perfectly off the press and action through macro
sequence. what we want thou is for it to seem like the real game show where
the class would give an answer and we would have a list of the answers that
we have hidden in front of us. What we are trying to accomplish is that we
do not want to see the mouse moving around but rather it do the whole "and
the survey says..." and by us pressing a key on the keyboard open the answer
that corresponds with the answer that they gave us.

What you have written has trained me on a new aspect but this would mean them
moving the mouse around the screen and that is what we are trying to avoid.
I know in excel you set the property to what ever you want ie "1" then when
you have the macro running you press ALT + 1 to make it work. This is what
I am trying to accomplish. Thanks for the help.

Are you distributing this, or are you using it yourself on computers you
control? I think what you want can be accomplished with an add-in, but an
add-in must be installed on every computer that uses it, so it is awkward
for distribution but wonderful on computers you control.

borrow someone else's PowerPoint version of Family Feud. For
example, see:

Can't use the number keys. PowerPoint maps these as "jump to slide #".

Can an add-in trap keystrokes, possibly even the number keys, but some
other keys if not, to trigger a macro?

I've played around with trapping key stokes (via an add in) and if I try to
grab the keys PPT already has mapped, total failure and error messages...

You can use any keys that PPT does NOT already have mapped. Look at the
"keyboard shortcuts" in help to get a list.

k kewl, but they only way to get this to run is to use a add in? it will not
allow the feature to work without it?

Normally, no, but Chirag's worked out a way of making it happen with his
shortcut manager add-in and if memory serves ... oh, shoot, it seldom does ...
hold on ... ah. It *did* serve:

and at the bottom of the page there's a link for those who want to purchase the
code for their own addins.
