AC 97 sound problem

Hi to all. I' ve recently installed Windows Vista RC1 build 5600 in a
different partition from the one that my previous OS (Windows XP Pro SP2) is
installed. From the first moment I can't hear any sound from My PC. In the
properties of my device says that '' device cannot start. Code 10''. Also
when I point the mouse over the speaker in taskbar I get ''No audio output
device is installed''. My sound card is the on board AC 97. I want to inform
that I have downloaded and installed the latest Vista driver from the
manufacturer site but yet no result.
Any suggestions?

The latest driver for you sound card may not support the outdated Build 5600
RC1 release. It may only support RC2 or later or only the RTM release.

I've got VIA AC'97 on one system. Updated Driver via Device Manager to MS's
6/21/2006 Version 6.0.5600.16384 and I'm jammin' again. Good luck!
