Why does a little screen pop up and say "Windows Mail can Compact the
Message Store? How do I stop that from happening? It only happens after I
send a message. What really needs to be fixed?

The database gets wasted space in it and needs to be compacted to get rid of
it so it will run faster, so allow the process to continue and you won't get
prompted again for 100 closings of WinMail.

BigAl, I just saw the very same thing just now as I was closing a site to
shutdown. I came over to ask the very same question. You were the most recent
post I saw. If you've gotten an answer since 11/2009 please share what you've
learned. I think it has to do with holding too many messages in email by too
many websites without deleting or trashing to lessen the MS load. I never
use the trash bin most of the time except to delete bogus ads. I pretty much
save EVERYTHING. Maybe, it's a warning we save too much.

You need to do the compact - it frees up errant space in your mail storage.
It is similar to doing a defrag on your C: drive. It is preset to come up
after every 100 logons.

Windows does many things for us automatically that most of us do not know
about. I consider that to be a problem, since malicious software could do
things without telling us and most of us won't know the difference. Some
people are like you; they are so surprised when Windows informs us that it
is going to do something, you actually think it is a problem. The message is
simply informing you that Windows needs to eliminate waste; do you really
want to prevent it from doing that?

Of course, most people do consider other people to be rude if they announce
their need to eliminate waste. Is that what you are complaining about?

Thank you slk759 and others that gave an accurate answer! If your not going
to answer the question, why waste yours and other peoples time and dont post
at all, AL.

Right. Many people ask vague questions that they never clarify. They waste
people's time by causing people trying to help to attempt to get
clarification.

Another big problem is people that hijack threads.

From Bear Walking, Mr Hobbs, What an attitude! We may not be rocket scientist like you. Instead of degrading people...say something useful. I see where no one is complaining but simply trying to find out exactly what windows is talking about. The window says nothing about eliminating waste but "compacting the message store" YOU are the only one that sounds as if they are complaining, and you don't seem to know what you are talking about. If you want to be helpful, learn to be more of a people person. Windows should be more clear...what messages? the ones we have deleted? The ones we have saved? compact them where? what store? do they mean storage? Answer the question, and stop "trying" to be such a know it all. If you can't be more considerate, keep your mouth shut.

I am sorry. Unfortunately not everyone has a sense of humor. Please ignore
my comments; they are intended for people with a sense of humor.

I do want to ask one thing, though. When replying inline as you did, please
insert an adequate enough of blank lines so I can determine what is your
comments.

I must say however that you are an expert at negativity. I think it would be
difficult for me to be as good as you are.

Similar problem? Not the same problem. If you want assistance, you are more
likely to get it if you create your own thread.
