About the Not Genuine warning.

I have a friend and he got he's pc with this nice little annoying warning
about the "....not Genuine copy....", so he was asking me if MS is going to
shut them down or what, of course I'll suggest to him that it will be better
just to get a oem licence, still he's looking for the guy who sold him the pc
(good time to get out of the country, kinda fishy anyways..), so on the mean
time what should I tell him,

A) MS is not going to shut your pc down but they will come to raid your
house for pirated softwatre!!!

B) You will not only be shut down but deported to Mexico or some third world
country!!

C) Let's wait for the guy to come back and then we kick his ass!!! (I like
this one btw)

D) C + MS has a date when they will shut down every pirated copy, that being
xxxxxx, so after the beating with look for the original in his house!!! (Now
I like this even more)

Thanks for the feedback on this.

Hello

Never blame a friend or anybody else for your own issue. Go out and purchase a legal copy of the OS and do a repair install to correct your legal woes..

Bye

Tell your friend to use System Restore back to a time before the update
and not to install WGA again. The other alternative is for your friend
to buy a legal copy of Windows and do a repair install.

Hello Alias

Persons do not like to admit that they are the ones having problems. It is more convenient to say a friend \acquaintance as so they do not look like it is them. I am 17 and I have done this and must admit that I still do it sometimes so that I do not hear the bad consequences and that I do not look bad . It is just human nature,

That's one possibility. The other is that he or she is telling the
truth. For you to assume he or she is lying is a tad presumptuous of
you, regardless of your age.

None of the above.... My understanding is that while your pirated copy won't
suddenly stop working, you'll be cut off from any further updates. Some hacker
is likely to rock your world at some point after that.

False. You can always get updates with Automatic Updates. Where do you
get your information?

Apparently out of my ass. I thought I'd read it somewhere and was too lazy to
look it up. Mea culpa!

I really don't believe this is true, unless your friend is trafficking
in large quantities of pirated Microsoft software. Joe Sixpack has
nothing to worry about, however.
B) You will not only be shut down but deported to Mexico or some third world

What an idiotic statement! What I would call "F.U.D" or, [F]ear,
ncertainty, and [D]oubt"
C) Let's wait for the guy to come back and then we kick his ass!!! (I like

Vicious bullies like to run in packs (like the dogs they are), it
appears.

Go down to the local alley about 12AM (by yourself). I'm sure someone
will be there to "kick your ass" (and probably, cut your throat for
your watch).

Microsoft tells us that they will do nothing, but those who own such
pirated copies will not be able to get updates of any kind.

MICROSOFT?
Personally, I prefer to listen to them rather than some idiot like
you.

AU will no longer work at a point in the future for pirated software,
my friend. In fact, updates from Microsoft of ANY KIND will NOT be
able to be downloaded using pirated software anymore. This is
Microsoft's announced intention for the coming months.

The dangerous part of Mr. Alias' advice is this:
Many other idiots like him are going to start having problems with
their inability to update, thus keeping hacker software circulating on
the Net for uneducated and unsuspecting LEGAL users.

My advice to "owners" of pirated copies of Windows is this: Stay off
the Net, and keep the REST of us safe.

Can you share the MS web site so we can all listen?

What point in the future? And, people who call me "idiots" aren't
friends of mine.

Announced where?

I got my information from Microsoft. From:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892130

"Note The Automatic Updates feature is not affected by the WGA
validation check. Therefore, you can use the Automatic Updates feature
to make sure that you receive critical Windows updates."
My advice to "owners" of pirated copies of Windows is this: Stay off
the Net, and keep the REST of us safe.

My advice to you is to do some research before you post incorrect
information.

Windows on their machines there are that don't update???

My advice to Windows users is exactly the same ... stay off the Net, and
keep the REST of us free from the tons of spam being sent out daily from
zombie Windows computers. (spam today accounts for 82% of the email traffic
flowing through the Net)

Let's suppose all Windows users stayed off the Net. Spammers and
virus writers would turn to Mac OS, Linux, or cell phones. Windows is
the most popular, so it's the target for now. A recent article tells
about an ex-employee spamming the company, sending thousands of emails
to their server causing over $80K in damages.

I got a better way: disconnect the USA and China from the Net and that
will end spam from one day to the next, regardless of the OS.
