are there any issue with running Micrsoft Antispyware
alongside NEW Spysweeper 4.0

Ron

I've had no problems with MSAS and SSW 3.5 (registered).
I've been trying to get SSW 4.0, but can't figure out
how. Webroot's web pages are not working well.

I am also a registered user of Spy Sweeper 4.0 and I received an e-mail two
days ago for the 4.0 launch. Did you receive the e-mail? It has a link
to the 4.0 download.

I did not use it alongside with MSAS. But I noted some strange behaviour of
Spy Sweeper 4.0. I have already submitted a ticket to support and is
waiting for an answer.

I finally managed to find my way to the area to open up a
ticket, and support responded by sending me a download
URL for 4.0. However, each attempt---and there were many
with many variations of MSAS on/off and RegDefend on/off--
-to install 4.0 hung at about 3/4 of the way through
extracting files. I decided to re-install 3.5 and is
working fine with MSAS like it always has. Will wait for
a better 4.0.

I am still waiting for an answer from the support team for problems with the
new 4.0. It seems that 4.0 has not been tested extensively in some
senarios and it exhibited some strange behaviour, even used alone. I
originally intend to use it alongside with Sunbelt's CounterSpy 1.0.29.

What is the problem, strange behavior you've encountered
exactly can you share, I would like to know and check if
i have the issue too.

I understand that it is a Microsoft private news newsgroup, but I hope to
share my experience and see if other people can reproduce the same. I also
hope that the development team of Microsoft AntiSpyware can take this as an
example when they refine future versions of Microsoft AntiSpyware. I am
sorry if the support staff of Webroot were not happy for this post.

Spy Sweeper 4.0.1.331 has the following problems so far:

(1) When I added a new favorite, I called it A, the Spy Sweeper window
popped up and told me that favorites B and C were added and asked me if I
want to keep them or not. Actually, favorites B and C were already there
in the favorite long ago.

The next day, when I added a new favorite, I called it D, the Spy Sweeper
window popped up again and told me that the same favorites B and C were
added and asked me if I want to keep them or not. I was really
surprised!!!

It seems that the new 4.0 failed to monitor the favorite list properly as it
failed to pick up the correct new additions.

(2) Every time when I boot and login to Windows XP, I get this grey blank
screen (Main screen error.JPG). I tried to press the minimize and maximize
button on the top right corner but nothing happens. Until I click on the
Spy Sweeper icon on the notification area of the tray bar, the normal Spy
Sweeper main program screen come back. It may be a minor cosmetic bug.

(3) Spy Sweeper 4.0 created a lot of temp files in my \Temp folder. They
are CSCA4A.tmp to CSCA4F.tmp, CSCA41.tmp, CSCA41A, CSCA41B.tmp... to
CSCA40.tmp, CSCA410.tmp to CSCA465.tmp. There are altogether 101 those temp
files and the temp files were all of zero size. So far, those temp files
do no harm to my system but I am just curious as to their functionality.
There are two possibilities:

(a) Those temp files were created by Spy Sweeper 4.0.1.331, because the temp
files were not there with Spy Sweeper 3.5.0.198.

(b) Those temp files were not created by Spy Sweeper 4.0.1.331 but were
created by another program. The running of Spy Sweeper 4.0.1.331 in the
background triggered the other program to create those temp files. But I
have no idea of which other program were triggered to create those temp
files.

I have Kaspersky AntiVirus Personal Pro 5.0.20 and ZoneAlarm 5.5.094.000
running in the background. I have already submitted tickets for the above
findings. I hope the support team and the development team of Webroot can
work together to fix the problems.

thanks my version of spysweeper is now 4.0.1.331. i have
to redownload the software because the built in update
program on spysweeper isn't working and not updating
spysweeper to a newer version. oh by the way how did you
update your spysweeper via email or via using the built
in update program on spysweeper? and can you update
definition on limited account?

In 3.5.0.198, the "Update Program" button simply brings you to the page that
will detect if you have the latest version of Spy Sweeper. I pressed the
button several times when using 3.5.0.198 and it told me that I have the
latest version. In 4.0, when you press the "Update Program" button, the
white spaces at the bottom of the program main screen will tell you if you
have the latest version. I think in 4.0, they will update your program on
the background instead of asking you to download the complete new setup file
on the web site. Haven't tried in 4.0 since 4.0.1.331 is the latest at the
moment.

As for the definitions, I manually press the "Update Definitions" every day
to see if there are new definitions, although it says it will update the
definitions automatically if it finds new definition on the server.
