About MS SMB/CIFS connections

Why MS SMB/CIFS File sharing constantly openes the connections from W2K Server to W2003 Server? There are not any shares used on W2K from W2003 Server machine.
 
What is the relationship between the W2K server and Windows Server 2003? Are
they in a domain? Are either DCs?
