Abit IL9 vs IB9 -- which to choose?

A

Two budget-priced Abit LGA775 mobos, two sets of problems:

IL9 -- $85 ($75 after mail-in rebate) -- +Stable -Unoverclockable TWO
PCI-Ex16 (although one is really x4)
The IL-9 PRO has just about every port (even LPT and COM) plus plenty
of PCI-Express; unfortunatly, its BIOS currently doesn't provide any
way to overclock it (might this be fixed by someone making a better
BIOS to flash?).

IB9 -- $109 ($99 if purchased with certain Core 2 Duo CPU) --
+Overclockable -Unstable ONE PCI-Ex16
The IB9 is like the AB9 (for AM2) but not as good. FSB can go to
400+, but the PCI slots are unlocked and float with the FSB (oh noes!)
meaning any card older than PCI-E is useless on this board. Also,
there are other bugs, like the being unable to use one of the IDE
channels unless you're using JMicron memory modules, but nothing that
would cripple a clean, modern build (i.e., no old PCI cards, no IDE
drives other than CD/DVD).

Both of these Ix9 boards appear largely identical; both seem to be
built on the same blue PCB, and each takes a slightly different turn
near the end of assembly. So, which would you go for? And, yes, I'll
be buying an E4300 plus cheap Kingston DDR2 667.

Oh, primary mission? Video editor. (Yes, it'll also serve as an HTPC
and video game console.)

Why put yourself through the pain of either? A more capable motherboard
would add only a few percent to the total cost of the system.

Then find a non-abit board that suits the need, or give him
a choice of more expensive or less configuration options.

Also, please refrain from cross-posting such a topic to so
many newsgroups, we are not your personal shopping service
and it is excessive to waste so many people's time on this.
Consider the limited results you have received, excessive
cross posting turns people off, keeps them from providing
aid instead of the opposite you had assumed.

Is Gigabyte GA 965P-DS3

The GIGABYTE GA-965P-S3 uses less long life components

i couldn't have said it better.... ;^)

Okay, the Biostar T-Forces do look awefully attractive from a number
of standpoints: price, performance, stability. However, Abit boards
have higher performance and stability at a slightly higher price; why
all the hate on Abit?

Ouch. Sorry; I wouldn't have cross-posted if I hadn't gotten enough
good answers the first time....which I am still lacking. I've seen
alot of other people cross-post the same message to multiple relevant
groups.... But, please, let us continue this thread; do you think
Penryn will outperform Barcelona, and will it run on a P965 or 975X
chipset? (Yes, I know we're talking vaporware, comparing two
processors that havn't even been released yet.) And, thank you for
bearing with me.

Forget it. You evidently would not recognize a good answer.

No hate for Abit necessarily, but if you're not willing to
spend what Abit wants for a board with the desired features,
it seems pretty clear another alternative is in order.
Have you established the T-Force is actually higher
performance and stability? If it has the same chipset,
performance differences should be trivial, and as for
stability, are you saying people with T-Force boards are
having them crash (or more often)? That would be a bit hard
to determine with any certainty unless you had several
samples for direct comparison.
