Hello:

Remember ABC Video Roll? Remember the anoying nag screen that kept popping
up if you didn't register?

I have found a website with a replacement file that registeres ABC Video
Roll.

http://www.hollmen.dk/articles/videoedit.htm

I downloaded ABC Video Roll ver 2.5.70 and the registeration patch. Copy the
exe file there to OVERWRITE the unregistered exe and checked for the
registration ABC claimed it was registered.

Just thought you'd be interested

This is a newsgroup for freeware, not cracks.

1st the program was free, but require validation on server. But as the
server disappear people couldn't validate it.

2nd if this group is freeware only why is permissible to talk about free
for personal/private/non-commercial use (these aren't freeware),
registerware (programs that require registration to work, like the
above, these also aren't freeware), and even ones that aren't even free
in any sense of the word (like shareware).

People easily confuse *freeware* with every kind of distribution method
that use the word *free* in it.

We are making a disservice to ourselves promoting every kind of software
that doesn't allow free usage and distribution. The worst are
registerware, that provoke that the consequences like we saw the above
example, expirecyware (on the rise in this newsgroup and totally against
the spirit of freeware), and crippleware/liteware (also on the rise).

For most people this is sufficient. They have temporary problems and
this types of "free" ware give them the temporary they needed.

But what happens when these programs stop running and people wanting the
new version find that the programs aren't "free" anymore.
It's a bait. And we fall for it. Always.
