AAAAARGH!!! Please Help

I seem to have a Trojan Virus on my hard drive and it is really starting to
p*#s me off!

The thing is, I am running windows xp and the virus is deep in my <C:\System
Volume Information> folder. I keep getting pop up windows saying that the
trojan is there and to run AVG but when I run AVG it picks up no virus.
Also, I cannot open the <C:\System Volume Information> folder, it just says
access is denied.

Is there any way that I can get rid of this damn thing?

Please, if you have any suggestions then I will be VERY grateful if you
could give them to me.

Thanks
Dave

disable system restore and delete the backup file - search on google
if you are unsure how to do this.

it denies you access because you are using it, whether you like it or
not, unless you disable it.

If you use system restore, don't forget to turn it on again when you
are done

You can get rid of everything in System Volume Information folders by
temporarily turning off your restore points. The drawback with this is
that you lose all of your old restore points.

First if it is possible can you give the exact message take a screen shot
(print screen button then paste into paint).

Then have to tried looking for a weird process in the process list
(con+alt+del)? post the process list here and then maybe i can tell you
which one is the trojan... also have you tried spyware search & destroy?

And lastly go to the start menu (after or before you found the process thats
the trojan) go to run, type in msconfig and go to start up and look for
anything that might look odd or the process which was the trojan and uncheck
it... After search your hdd for the file name and delete it... that should
solve it ;)

His AV has identified the virus/worm - but can't clean it from the
system restore point.

He has received replies from 2 people now - should be OK
