A8V Deluxe...no SATA

New system, Asus A8V Deluxe board with two SATA drives (non-RAID;
HDD and CDRW). No boot devices detected in bios (autodetect); my
CD drive can read discs, so I know it's getting power.

I went to Asus to try and download the SATA drivers onto a
floppy, but their download site seems to be dead right now.

The ASUS motherboard CD has the SATA RAID driver
for both the VIA nand Promise controller. You need to
put the proper driver on a floppy and then press the F6
key when the Windows installation prompts you.

Which SATA controllers are you using? (The A8V includes the Via VT8237 SATA
controller, plus a separate controller by Promise that adds another PATA
port plus two SATA ports.)

If you're using the Promise controllers, I believe that you'll need the
(non-RAID) SATA drivers.

(Extract them to a floppy, and do the F6 trick during the OS installation. I
assume that you're running XP.)

I an unaware of any separate non-RAID SATA drivers for the VIA VT8237
controller. Perhaps none are needed; certainly they were not needed for my
previous mainboard (Asus P4P800, Intel 865PE chipset).

I'm using the Via controllers myself, but with a pair of hard drives in RAID
0. I haven't tried the non-RAID option.

Incidentally: does the Promise controller support removable drives? I don't
know that it does not, but some

Address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.
