A7V8X-X Shuts down after 20 seconds!

Hi, just finished putting together my computer... but on first boot, I
didn't make it much farther than the BIOS. No matter what I do, it
shuts down after about 10-20 seconds. If I turn off, then on again...
it will shut down pretty much right away (after about 3 seconds).

I'm not sure where to begin to troubleshoot this problem! Can anyone
help??

I connected the motherboard to the case with the standoffs... wasn't
sure whether to use the little red washers?! All of the fans work
when I turn it on...

Also, like some other people experience... the CPU is not detected at
the right speed... it shows 1466mhz right away.

Thanks!

Thanks for your help, I will give that a shot... I was thinking it may
be defective memory... only from some other posts I read.

Should I bother reinstalling the Heatsink? I did put some thermal
paste on the CPU itself, but not on the heatsink... I was told that I
should put minimal paste on there. So I just spread a very thin
layer.

A thin layer of paste is enough but I think that is where your problem is
anyhow. Make sure the cooler is fitted in the correct manner.
The speed of your 2500 should be 1833.

I had a COP shutdown problem that I solved with powering the CPU fan
directly from the PS. The CPU took longer than 20 sec to overheat though.
More like 10 minutes. Tech support from my vendor suggested that I use a
non-conducting standoff for the center mounting screw only. They claimed
that they had problems with inadequate voltage due to grounding to the case.
Does your power supply provide at least 2a for the +5v SB?

Well, I fixed the problem... thanks for all the pointers!

Basically just taking the heatsink off and reseating it helped me
uncover the problem... the heatsink was on 180 degrees (upside down).
Quite funny, but the top of the CPU didn't line up properly and I
didn't notice until I took the heatsink off!

Yikes... rookie mistake!
