A7V266-E and Promise IDE

After moving my components to a new case, I'm having problems getting
Win XP to boot with a HDD attached to one of the Promise IDE
connectors.

Old case:
Primary 1: Seagate HDD
Primary 2: Seagate HDD
Secondary 1: CD-RW
Secondary 2: CD-Rom
Promise 1: Seagate HDD

This configuration was working fine until the Primary 2 HDD got
corrupted. Along with replacing the drive, I upgraded the case and
power supply.

New Case:
Primary 1: Seagate HDD
Primary 2: Maxtor HDD
Secondary 1: CD-RW
Secondary 2: CD-Rom
Promise 1: Seagate HDD
Promise 2: Seagate HDD (When returned from warranty replacement)

I've tried switching the Secondary and Promise cables. Win XP will
boot and recognize all drives with the CD drives on the Promise
controller, but the CD-RW will not write. It gives me a blue screen
and reboots. The bios recognizes the HDD and loads the Promise driver,
but with the HDD on the Promise controller, it locks up on the windows
screen or after loading mup.sys during safe mode.

How can I get XP to boot and recognize the HDDs on the Promise
controller? I just don't get it, it worked just a week ago. I also
switched from round cables to flat ribbon cables on the recommendation
of a Seagate Tech. Could cables be the problem? If so, why does the
same ribbon cable work when attached to the Secondary IDE channel?

Or, how can I get the CD-RW to work on the Promise controller?

Thanks for any help!

A long shot - disable P&P OS in the bios - fairly sure just rebooting
will get the settings to stick. Your IRQ assignment will probably change
in the process. I would advice anyone using XP to use this setting -
whether or not later m/b's have reversed this setting, I'm not sure of.

I set the PnP bios setting off. Unfortunately, nothing has changed.
I also tried installing the latest Promise IDE driver. Still no luck.
The bios is recognizing the drive during the boot sequence, but it
still locks up at the Windows splash screen.
