A7N8X-E Deluxe...SLOW and runs out of memory

Wildbill

Just got my new system online, and I must say my old HP celeron is
faster! (maybe)
I have a couple of times gotten a message that I was out of memory
(not sufficent to run program)
I have tried to change settings in BIOS, but what I have is what I
get.

My System:

ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe
AMD Athalon XP 2800+ Barton
2X512 DDR 400 PC3200 memory
Bios version 1008

Any advice appreciated.

With Win98 you must add these lines to use one gig of RAM. It works
for me on two boxes.

MinFileCache=51200
MaxFileCache=102400

Enter msconfig in the run line of the Start menu hit enter.
Choose Sys.ini tab at top. Go down to Vcache and add those two lines,
save and close out. Reboot for changes to take effect.

What are you running OS and apps-wise? Out of curiousity what were
the specs of the hp box?

did you get compatible memory?....not all PC3200 will run right on the
A7N8X...did you do the XP install?..if you did make sure the Unified Drivers
went in correctly..my first install with XP did not..redid it and eventually
reformatted to get it up to speed.

Have you tested your memory sticks individually in the machine to make sure
they each work with that motherboard. Not all brands and models of RAM work
with that board.
