A7N8X-E Deluxe and 5.1 sound

I am having a problem getting the rear speakers to work on my 5.1 speaker
set up. I am using the onboard sound and logitech z-640 speakers. No
matter where I plug in the 3 speaker wires, all 6 speakers won't work. The
controll panel doesn't seem to help- it is set to 5.1 sound. I am using the
drivers that came on the disk w/the motherboard.

The speaker manual says to plug the 3 leads into the color coded jacks- lime
green, yellow orange and black. I have 5 jacks and only 2 of them match the
colors of the input leads. (lime & yellow orange).

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

I found a manual here:

http://www.logitech.com/pub/pdf/speakers/z640.pdf

The center channel speaker has a wire with three plugs on the end.
These are supposed to be green, black, and orange.

The so-called manual doesn't identify what the three plugs do. That
can be found in the "Frequently Asked Questions About Logitech Speakers".
I guess the questions are frequently asked because the manuals are so
poor :)

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?p...8&showalldocuments=0&countryid=2&languageid=1

If you scroll near the bottom of that page, there is a figure of what is
on those three connectors.

Green Black Orange
TIP Front Left Rear Left Front Center
RING Front Right Rear Right LFE
SLEEVE Ground Ground Ground
(SLEEVE2) (Rear Center)

I think the weird four contact Orange plug would only exist on a
Logitech 6.1 speaker system, not on your 5.1 speaker system.

The motherboard manual is here.

ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/socka/nforce2/a7n8x-e/e1465_a7n8x-e_deluxe.pdf

On page 38 (2-18) it identifies the three jacks stacked in a column
(from top to bottom) as Bass/Center, Front, and Rear. So the Logitech
Orange goes in the top one, Logitech Green goes into the middle one, and
Logitech Black goes into the bottom one. You may need to locate the
"nvswap.exe" from Nvidia, in case the wiring of Bass/Center is reversed
and is actually Center/Bass for some reason. Who knows, maybe by now
the ability to swap Center with Bass is buried in one of the control
panels somewhere.

ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/misc/utils/nf2/nvswap_v10.zip

Give that a try.

Also, make sure the "matrix" button on the Center speaker faceplate
is not depressed, as that button makes the speakers derive their
surround effect by extracting info from only the front signals.
Also make sure the Nvidia control panel thinks the outputs are in 5.1
mode.

Thanks Paul,

The link to the FAQ was very useful. It made it clear what each plug was
for. Since I was sure that the plugs were in the right jacks, I fiddled
around some more and found the nforce control panel. Now everything seems
to work from there.
