A7N8X can't adjust multipliers on latest Bartons?

Threads on a few of the OC boards are stating that 2500 Bartons
beginning with AQYFA appear to have locked multipliers and can't be
changed from 11, even with something called the wire trick. Since I
was just about to get one a 2500 Barton I'm concerned.

There was something about the Asus board only reading 4 bits but I
don't know how the board changes the multiplier so that doesn't do me
much good. It is unclear if the NF7 can work with the new Bartons or
whether the A7N8X Rev 2 can do so. Apparently at least Rev 1 can't
handle them.

Anyone who can explain what's happening here?

including the A7N8X 2.0 DLX.

If it's not just the A7N8X, maybe AMD are trying to say "You can't overclock
this processor anymore, get the Athlon64 instead." Possible or conspiracy
theory?

The A7N8X cannot change the 5th bit of the multiplier, this means
depending on the default multiplier of the processor installed you will
have a choice of multipliers of "up to 12.5x" or "13x and greater", a
wire in the socket mod should fix that though.

I've read AMD was to put another layer over the top of the CPU to fight
off vendors hacking the chips and selling them as faster ones, can't
find that link but FWIW heres one that mentions it with a picture,
