Had a power failure so APS caused the computer to power down. When I
booted again, I had symbols instead of test for icons, etc.
I thought that somehow the computer had changed the font to symbols but
I don`t know that symbols is a font on windows.
Ideas?
Thanks a lot!

I think Signs, Symbol, Wingdings and Webdings are all TrueType
fonts on Windows machines. Have you tried to restore the registry?

It's unlikely that a virus caused those symbol displays at boot time. It is
possible that you damaged your boot program or Windows when the computer
lost power. It may need to be repaired.

Your standard font could have been lost somehow. Look for Times New Roman
and Arial in c:\windows\fonts.

I once had a case when everything was displayed in Greek letters instead of
the missing Times New Roman font.

Buddy:

Sounds like an operating system crash problem. If you tell ud what your OS
is, then someone in this newsgroup may be able to help. Some of the MS OS's
have a feature called System Restore which if used CAREFULLY can fix your OS
after a hard crash.
