A unknown error has occurred

If you want to reset the message store, then you can move everything out of
the directory so it is completely empty and then you can later import from
the directory to which you moved the files using File | Import | Messages.

Alternatively you can just delete the two copies of the
WindowsMail.MSMessageStore , but some are reporting problems if you do that,
in that WinMail may keep trying to recover files when it opens.

So I recommend the former method, if you have to reset the store.

The Clear Outbox button will remove the stuck messages from the outbox. The
other buttons may help improve functionality and performance, but they won't
fix stuck messages in other folders.

Windows Mail, please someone find a solution for this horrible mail program.
I also cannot delete the items in the Deleted Item folder, and I also cannot
see my contacts on the same page with email messages.
VISTA is probably going the way that the Millennium operating system..

Caliber1: Hello:
It's not Vista, its a territorial conflict between Vista and your
anti-virus. The anti-virus scans the email and deletes the content or
attachments. The email appears in your inbox, but Windows does not recognize
it, as it is not really there and therefore can not delete it. Try deleting
it in Save Mode?

The problem is that the database entries indicating a message exists cannot
be removed. The presence or absence of an actual corresponding file
matching the entry has no bearing on the bug.

Same thing happening to me...and also a friend of mine. I can't believe
there is no way to fix this yet. I miss XP.

My advice is to sit tight and ignore this error for now.
Hopefully, the new email client program that Microsoft will release
later this month will correct this and other bugs.

And then again?

It would help if you described what your issue is.
There is no such thing as Windows Express.

I don't have Outlook Express.
I am trying to get up to speed regarding 'Windows' express.
I have tried everything that was suggested by microsoft to work around this,
to no avail.
What's the desl?
Do I have to sign up for Outlook, then transfer to this new and 'improved'
(lol) system?
Or should I consider the old standbys, such as Apple, so solve this problem?
Any input would be appreciated!!!

Go to Edit | Empty Deleted Items and do that several times. Some say that
works.

Yeah, that would be an oxymoron.

I share everybody's comments, I even went so far as to setup another email
address, which seemed to work - untill mail got stuck in that Outbox too.
However the best advice on this entire page comes from Mr. Gary VanderMolen -
de-activate your Windows mail programme and install Thunderbird - and learn
from the experience, if enough of us leave Microsoft they will soon get the
message.

I can't help by laugh at all these posts. :) I'm having the same problem,
but I've had my computer with Windows Vista for awhile, well since Feb, & it
worked fine until just a little bit ago. My Outbox won't clear. I wasn't
having issues until I tried to send an attachment. I was working on a file &
wanted to send it straight from the program. The file didn't send, it was
Unknown Error, now it won't delete. Well, I sent it again, this time it did
send & it STILL won't leave my Outbox. Go figure. But then I've been having
problems with the computer freezing, too. This computer was bought in Feb.
What I don't like about the Windows Vista is that I go to some programs
already on the computer (can't think of any now) & then click the Help Button
& get the annoying message stating that Windows Vista doesn't support older
versions of Windows Help. What!?!? First, it came with the computer so
everything should work. Second, that just means that all older programs are
being pushed aside on purpose, but the updates are no good either because the
help doesn't work! Why issue a program with a computer with another program
that it isn't compatible with, why? Why? I don't get it. I miss 2000. It
was simple, it WORKED. XP was okay, but I preferred 2000. I'm not into
fancy, I'm into practical, if you can have both great, but it has to work.

Anyway, I guess no one has figuered it out yet.

Got fed up looking for a solution, so took your tip & downloaded Thunderbird.
All sorted now, thanks for tip.
