But for 30 days, a trial version will function identically to a normal version,
then go into "reduced functionality" mode. One of the symptoms of that is that
it's unable to save files.
You might try automating PPT to start up, create a new file (which I'm guessing
it won't be able to do in "expired-trial" mode) and saving the file to a
temporary name.
If it allows you to do both, it's either regular PPT or a still-working trial
version.
