Hello i have downloaded the m.s.service pack 2. since
my dvd and dvd w-r roms will not work until i restart the
pc and this will work one time only. then i tried the
repair to see if that would solve it ! At start up my
ATI would not start up. Went to website to download the
drivers then installed them but got this, "SET UP WAS
UNABLE TO COMPLETE THE INSTALATION. TRY TO SET UP YOUR
DISPLAY ADAPTER WITHA STANDARD V.G.A.DRIVER BEFORE
RUNNING SET UP. The PC is also very slugish and freezes
its a ADM ATHLON 3000+ 1GB RAM... Please Help

Just do what it says.
Set the display adapter to Standard VGA and you'll be forced to reboot.
Basically your telling the system your display adapter is a Standard VGA,
even though it isn't.
After rebooting install the drivers and you'll be forced to reboot again.
After rebooting the second time your display adapter should be alright.
Don't worry about ATI programs not starting during this process as there is
nothing ATI loads at startup that absolutely has to be loaded. Most people
turn off all that ATI startup junk afterwards anyway.

Be VERY careful and I warn you to backup your system. I have a Radeon
9600 AIW and suspect that some of the problems that caused me to lose
partitions and also reformat my drive could have been from
incompatibilities with video leading to corruption. It amazes me how
intrusive SP2 is so handle with great care.
