Hi, I thought I'd share my sadness with everyone, as I'm about to uninstall
Vista :(

Like many of you, I've come to love the subtle differences that makes my day
every time I use it (I'm not talking about you anti-MS trolls). Sadly, my
hardware is just not good enough for it.

Do I blame MS? No, I blame the driver makers... Especially, nvidia!!! Shame
on them for holding their drivers away from everyone. My 6600GT is just not
performing the way it should be... With their latest drivers, I have noticed
a decrease in performance and overall stability.

I hope to come back to it again as I really enjoy using it.

If you have read any of my posts you would know that I am one of the anti-MS
trolls, but even with the latest hardware Vista is pretty slow.

I have a Intel Core 2 Duo, 2x WD Raptors in RAID 0, 2GB of RAM and a very
expensive graphics card and I am left quite disappointed. Vista is slow,
buggy and has a lot of user-interface problems. Not worth the long wait in
my opinion. It should have been a lot better.

I have now made my older Athlon64 machine into my Windows 2003 server, so I
have just reinstalled XP on my ex-server, a PIII-800mhz machine with 1GB of
RAM to become my secondary desktop. I'm realising how polished and fast XP
is, even on such an old computer!

you obviously cant build computers because Vista FLIES on my hardware...
MUCH faster than XP was on the same hardware.

as for nvidia, i couldnt agree more. i have an 8800GTS and im still sitting
here without aero until nvidia decides to release the driver... as if they
didnt know the RTM date a year ago!!!

Conspiracy theorist, eh?

Julie, there are just 13 more days to the official public launch, after
which we should expect to see drivers appear.. Nvidia have been very slow in
producing anything meaningful, and have yet to do so.. my 6600 card also
runs like a dog, and it shouldn't at this stage..

The situation is about to get better.. try to hang in there..

Vista runs faster than XP on my system too..

It's been a while since I had XP on my main desktop PC, but I plan to make a
dual boot installation soon. What I was saying was that my PIII-800 still
runs XPSP2 very fast, as long as I am not using large applications. My
point is that Vista is not as impressive, for its time, as XP was. The
advances over the last five years are not as great as the five years before.
I think that Microsoft are secretly disappointed with themselves.

Like XP, the situation will get better when Vista's SP2 is out.

What is your hurry? XP wasn't up to snuff until it had SP2. The same
will be true for Vista. Those installing it now are mere pawns dancing
to MS' guinea pig tune.

Don't get me started on nVidia...!

I saw an 100.x series driver with support for the 8800 range of cards on
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=12468 might be worth
trying out.

I'm still waiting for nVidia's sleep issues to be resolved on my Tablet.
Luckily I've got ATI cards in all my desktops so I don't have to battle with
any of those.

It took many months, after Windows XP was released, for all of the hardware
vendors to update their drivers. Unfortunately, some of them never did. They
looked upon the situation as an opportunity to try to stuff a new printer or
scanner etc. down your throat.

I think you will find that by the end of Feb. most issues will have been
eliminated. Drivers will magically become available and updates to many
programs will be posted by the respective manufacturers.

Drivers are made by the equipment manufactures not MS. A service pack will
have no effect on drivers.

stability.

I'm guessing you're basing that observation on some comparison with an older
version that performed better. So who's holding a gun to your head to use
this newer driver?

Nvidia comes out with newer drivers on a fairly regular basis--there's
nothing wrong with skipping one or two, even if they're supposed to be the
latest and greatest.

In a way, I hope you're having more problems than just that to justify
uninstalling a whole OS.

You're right, of course, except for generic drivers. So, there are two
reasons to wait. One for the drivers and another for Vista to get out of
final beta. There's a third one that says you shouldn't buy it in the
first place and it's called being infested with SPP and DRM.

Alias, who likes to control his computer, not have it controlled by
Microsoft.

You don't seem to know that Vista was released to manufacturing in November.
This is called RTM it is no longer in beta.
And as far as SPP and DRM I personally have never had any problems. But of
course I only use software and music that I have actually paid for unlike
some.

Semantics. It's not ready for general release. MS always releases their
progrmas before they're ready to use, using people like you as guinea
pigs to test it out. They've even said as much.

It has nothing to do with whether someone uses something legit. It has
to do with the fact that Vista reports back to the mother ship if you
change hardware, which should be none of MS' business. What else it
reports back is anyone's guess but the fact that MS is in bed with the
NSA is fairly disconcerting.
