A question about Microsoft Outlook 2002

James

My system is Windows XP, IE8, processor 1.50 GHz, RAM 1024 MB. My
question is Microsoft Outlook was installed on my computer when it was
bought refurbished, but when I open the program the login box keeps
appearing and reappearing so much it will not let my email download
so I can read it. I've searched the internet for someway to rectify
that problem, and tried what I have found about configuring Microsoft
Outlook 2002-but nothing has helped.

So now I'm wondering, is it possible for me to uninstall Microsoft
Outlook 2002, and install an Outlook Express program and which I
should install since I'm on IE8?

Either Outlook is configured wrong, or the issue is with your ISP.

Yes.

and install an Outlook Express program

Outlook Express is part of Windows XP, and should already be there
without any need to install it.

and which I
should install since I'm on IE8?

Most important, if I acquired a used computer, no matter who
previously owned it, the first thing I would do with it would be to
reinstall the operating system cleanly. You have no idea how the
computer has been maintained, what has been installed incorrectly,
what is missing, what viruses and spyware there may be, etc. I
wouldn't want to live with somebody else's mistakes and problems,
possibility of kiddy porn, etc., and I wouldn't recommend that anyone
else do either.

And in your case, the problems you are experiencing are very likely
the result of somebody's doing something wrong with it.

Outlook questions should be reposted to one of the Outlook groups. Outlook
Express has been discontinued, but it should already be install on your XP
PC, if not go to add/remove programs and select the Windows Components
option on the left.

I think I understand what you're saying Ken. So I can uninstall

Have you tried the simple expedient of using the Mail Applet in the Control
Panel to create a new profile, adding a data file & configuring your
account?

Outlook Express is there whether you uninstall Outlook or not.

Either Outlook is configured wrong, or the issue is with your ISP.

If the previous owner of your used computer hasn't sufficiently
screwed things up, yes, Outlook Express will be there even if you
*don't* uninstall Outlook. Both can be installed at once, regardless
of which one you choose to use.

But once again, my advice is to completely reinstall Windows from
scratch.

I don't know how to tell you what to do for sure. It depends on what
the seller means by "refurbished," but I can tell you that if it were
me, I would not trust him and would want to reinstall Windows.

Great! Glad to hear that.

Have you ever successfully sent and received mail successfully in Outlook
using the account which is giving the problem?

If the answer is YES, your ISP/mail provider has a problem and you should
contact them

If the answer is NO, you should still contact your ISP/mail provider and ask
them to walk you through the account setup procedure..

Whether you use Outlook or Outlook Express, the above applies as they both
work exactly the same, the only difference being that Outlook Express lacks
many of the features contained in Outlook..
