A program to bookmark (or index) PDF files?

Hy all,
time ago I found a free program to bookmark pages inside a pdf file, give
these bookmark a name, to save the bookmark in folders ... so that, if you
want to find where an information was among all the pdf's you have, it
could be easily found ... but I can't find the link to this program :-( .

I remember that this was the only freeware program from the makers, selling
other software or other kind of services ... did I dreamed or not? Do
anyone know of a program of this kind?

Yeah, I remember it too though I don't have URL or info about company. I
dl'd and found that I couldn't use it. It had some requirements that were
beyond my system -- I don't think it would work with Win98, if I remember.

Not that any of this actually helps you except to reassure you that you
aren't imagining it . . . :)

create bookmarks. Now PDF Software provides the same functionality for
Acrobat and Acrobat Reader. Favorites creates links in a floating window
that lead you to pages of a PDF document just by pressing a button of your
mouse. The links are organized in folders with the possibility to modify
them whenever you want and you can always find them in the window of your
Favorites.

Try PDFSearch at <http://pdfsearch.sourceforge.net/>.

"With PdfSearch you can find text strings in an archive of pdf
files. PdfSearch runs on W32 and Unix systems...PdfSearch creates a
mirror directory (textmirror) inside the search root directory you are
indexing. The textmirror contains a copy of the entire search root
directory tree and has, in the appropriate location, a the text version
of all the indexed pdf files . A text index database (actually a simple
pickled zipped Python dictionary) is then created from the textmirror.

It works very well and it is free.

You GOT IT! I've tried googling for Addin Favorites after reading
Tanner's answer, but just found pages with links to download from the
pdfsoft home page, now seeming dead ... then you came ... :)

May I scream a bit?

WHAT A WONDERFUL NG, HOW MANY COMPETENT, KIND PEOPLE!

Ok stop screamin' ...

Don't let the v0.2 fool you... It is already very stable and
complete.

It does not require Adobe (or Acrobat) Reader. It does use (and
include) pdftotext (part of xpdf <http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/>).

Can't install it. Despite having chosen English as language it gives a
lot of Spanish shit. I thought I had figured out it wants to know the
Acrobat Reader folder, but I could not get it installed. I have
Acrobat Reader v. 5 installed.

Non lo so ma posso dirti che la ver. 6 qui non e` molto apprezzata
(troppo grosso e lento), perche' non lo provi e riporti qui il risultato?
Ma attento a scaricare la versione giusta (leggi gli altri miei post qui,
mi raccomando)

- MY answer: I don't know but I can say that ver. 6 is not appreciated
here (too big and slow), why don't you try and post the result here? Be
careful, download the right version (look at my latest post here)

I HAD the same problem. I tried to find the original pages and found them
at http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.pdfsoft.com/ ; I tried
downloading from here - same result. (I found there an interesting manual
in pdf format - but it was not "archived").

After that, I tried searching for "Addin favorites" with Google. I tried
*hundreds* of sites; most of them pointed to the 'dead' pages for the
download, so there no luck. Some had direct download; but the files gave
the same result you report, trying to install the program.

Meantime, I found that A.F. was downloaded a lot of times with a good
evaluation from users. I guessed: "how a program that can't be installed
has so good results"? Something was wrong. I found also that in some pages
A.F. was offered in two versions, one for Acrobat, the other for Acrobat
Reader. So I suspected that the version I often downloaded was the wrong
one; like you, I have only Acrobat Reader 5 installed. And in the pages
where I found the two versions were reported, the d/l link pointed always
to the 'dead' pages . Until ... let me scream ...

FINALLY FOUND A SITE WITH DIRECT DOWNLOAD TO THE READER VERSION!!!!!

It is ONLY THERE: http://www.listsoft.com/?id=8002 .

ATTENTION: CHOOSE "Download (Acrobat Reader version: FavoritesR.exe from
listsoft.ru [1156 Kb]"

Now the program INSTALLS ITSELF!

And I can say I find it really useful; it works right as I expected.
You will find in the bar under "File", "Edit" etc (I don'know how to put
it) the icon of a folder. click on it and A.F. will load (a bit slow).
Then, click on "OK" and you'have opened the A.F. window. Open a pdf, go to
a page and bookmark it. Repeat this with other pdf, then make folders,
folders inside folders, and use the mouse to move the bookmarks. I'0s a
wonderful piece of software.
