A problem in multiple IPs on an NIC

Hi All;
The is a problem I faced when assigning multiple IP for a single network
connection. When I assign two IPs for example; one that is a real one and
the other is virtual, I found that it takes only the Real, and doesn't take
the Virtual one and in some cases the vicevers happens. By then I had to
enable and disable the NIC Card untill the two IPs can be assigned to them.
Please any one that can help me in this issue, will help me so much

Normally you only assign a single IP to a single Network
card, and then ad aditional network cards to create a
multihomed system.

Are you maybe not trying to ad another protocol to the
nic, like IPX/SPX or Appletalk alongside TCP/IP?


Try breaking down what you are doing and what you are
putting where under what headings in your next post.

Are you talking about a virtual machine such as in MS Virtual PC? I
have a virtual machine in VPC and I set an IP address in the virtual
PC. And I left the real IP address as set by the DHCP server. I can
access either machine as a network place from the other machine just
as if they were two separate computers on the network. And they are
both using the same real NIC. But there is a virtual NIC within the VPC.
