A little different reinstallation problem

You have one physical HD about 78 GB, (78,521 MB), in
size. Don't worry about the 8 MB segment. You can either
utilize this entire space for your C drive or split it up
to make 2 logical 40 GB drives, C & D, or 4 20 GB, C,D,E,
& F or whatever quantities you desire you desire.
The easiest is to make 1 large HD, in the *)GB partition.
The smart thing is to delete the 78 GB partition and then
make 2 39 GB partitions, install XP in the first, and
utilize the second 39 GB to backup XP installation first.
You could also use the second 39GB partition for only data
filed and only keep your dvd, music, etc files on this
second partition which would be your D drive. I wouldn't
make any partition smaller than about 20 GB. This would
give you 4 logical drives 1 for XP, 1 for data files, 1
for XP backup, and 1 for data backup.
Get some help from a friend, or be prepared for research.

Hope I didn't confuse you.
Please have a great day,

Chet

Your response did help me understand what I'm being asked to do. I found info
in the Windows database that gave me step by step instructions on
reformatting the hard drive. I went through the process but it still wouldn't
boot up Windows. I just tells me to insert boot disk. In other words it just
goes in circles. I will keep researching.

Why do you create a partition for XP backup? What is that for? Why the need
for that?
