A file with ~ (tilde) extention

I do remember seeing a discussion on this (or perhaps another board) about
recurrence of a file with a tilde (~) extension. This file pops up on a
desktop and I can see it in several directories. There was a suggestion on
how to get rid of it. Now I cannot find where that information is. May
someone suggest how to get rid of this file?

Hi,

The file with the ~ extension is just a 'so called' garbage file that
Outlook Express leaves behind with it's dbx files.

You can just simply delete the file.

Hello Ilya,

The ~ file on your desktop is a copy of your OE Address Book. It (re)appears
anytime you make modifications to the Address Book. Just delete the file.

Thanks Alan and Gary for your suggestions. I will delete those ~ files. But
it seems to me that there was a suggestion on how to prevent re-appearance
of this file.

I don't know of any way to keep the file from appearing - other than
getting rid of OE.

ilyaz;
Delete the ~ file. Two ways that work for preventing the reappearance of the tilde
file. 1) Do not open your Address Book. 2) Do not make any changes to your Address
Book.
